CHITLINS

Get ready for The Boom Boom Dance. The Vine Records artists Chitlins are releasing their exciting interactive dance single this month with mixes geared to the underground and a video being worked on MTV2, VH1, and youtube. The buzz-generating band is fronted by innovative New York-based artist Excite, a multi-talented player who draws upon both his rich musical history and dramatic acting chops to inject energetic creativity to the mesmerizing mix of The Boom Boom Dance.

It all starts with New York born Excite, who accompanied his mother and his four brothers to church weekly throughout his childhood in Miami, soaking in a funk gospel influence from his earliest days. Upon moving back to New York as a young adult, he quickly landed parts in popular television mainstays like “Law & Order,” “New York Undercover,” and “Oz.” But his musical passions continued to percolate, and it wasn’t long before he connected with like-minded talents and Fat Nappa Productions was formed, ultimately turning out Nappa’s World, a project that sold internationally and led to college tours alongside artists like Black Rob, Fabolous, and Mims. Excite was the solo artist up front, the four brothers simmering quietly behind their more electrifying sibling as his back-up band.

It was those associations that led to the fateful meeting with well-respected, gold record-scoring producer Lee Stone (Pharoahe Monch, Busta Rhymes, Erykah Badu, Method Man), and creative fusion occurred in the best possible way. The mighty twosome did well-received work for esteemed Blue Note Records with jazz great and Grammy nominated Ronny Jordan, thrilling crowds at BET Jazz fests across the country. As Excite continued to develop his own voice he eventually began to post his own material on Myspace, where the buzz quickly grew for the new artist with the irresistible groove. From the first playful moments of The Boom Boom video, viewers are drawn in by Excite’s engaging personality. The song’s enticing tempo makes it impossible to stay seated, a la James Brown himself. The urban groove and Excite’s soulful delivery kicks things into a 21st century feel, even as the bouncy lyrics reference popular dances of the past, including the Jerk, the Monkey, and even the Macaroni. It’s all good in The Boom Boom, and if you’re not up on your feet in the first 60 seconds, check for a heartbeat.
